In the world of CMS solutions there are three Open-Source giants: Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal. I have worked with all three solutions over the past eight years and although all three have their own redeeming qualities, only one of them stands alone with overall superiority.
Worpress started the revolution with basic blogging templates and has remained one the most acclaimed CMS solutions in the world. It's ease of use, built-in functionality and massive support community make it an industry standard.
Drupal was first released in 2001 and has since been a staple for high-tech CMS solutions, and its core features outweigh its awkward installation and quirky usability.
Joomla was first introduced in 2005 and quickly took the CMS world by storm. It has since made several releases that have revolutionized web based CMS solutions. Here are the top five reasons to choose Joomla over any other CMS solution, open-source or commercial.
1. Its Open-Source Free! 'Nuff said.
2. A massive community of supports and developers helps make Joomla one the best open-source CMS's in the world. Even the CMS giant Drupal does not have as big a following.
3. Joomla.org is an expansive and informative site that offers more documentation, extensions and support links than any other CMS developer -- even the paid ones.
4. Whether it's the built in WYSIWYG editor, the content layout or the extensions library, Joomla's core system has an expansive feature set that will allow any developer to create a robust site without extensions.
5. There are over 4,000+ plugins and extensions for Joomla - most of them free - that allow for a seemingly endless combination of perfection. Joomla has a rich source of tempting communities as well. Both Drupal and Wordpress combined do not have the same amount of high-end, robustly featured templates as Joomla. Custom configuration of templates with Joomla is easy and integrates perfectly with core Joomla content.
